Jenny

I am a 22 year old girl with a passion for food. Miami is the beautiful yet crazy city where I reside. As of current I am a graduate from the University of Miami with my B.A in Biology hoping to get into P.A school. Not sure where this hectic life will take me but I’m ready for the ride. With the help of my family, friends, and my equally health nut boyfriend the road to success is closer than I know.

Being a ballet dancer all my life my body became my temple but I never treated it with respect. My eating habits growing up were not the best. McDonalds and Burger King became a staple in my diet. Black beans, rice, and pork are the traditional dishes my Cuban family loves to cook. Steak sammies with shoe lace fries were my ultimate indulgence and who could say no to decadent cookies and ice cream?Β  I soon noticed the chub and although I was not considered overweight I literally felt uncomfortable in my own skin. High School was my heaviest weight and when I soon started to diet food became the enemy.

I ate every low fat food available which now I know is one of the most harmful things you can do to your body. I later had high cholesterol. I cut drinking soda (which I still do), and limited my calories to about 1000 a day. Let’s just say I lost more than I intended to and even when I knew I was too skinny I still wanted to be skinnier. Whoever said you can never be too skinny or rich was dead wrong. Not only was I thin but I was weak, not an attractive combination. When I met my boyfriend everything turned around. He taught me the value of eating whole grain nutritious meals, and fueling the body with unprocessedΒ  foods. I am a big time nut butter girl fanatic πŸ˜‰ With his inspiration and weight training I picked up the dumbbells and lifted for strength. I gained a healthy amount of weight and even did a little bulk over the winter gaining some much needed muscle. I feel great and I love my body.

It’s never too late to turn things around and conquer the world. Thin does not equal fit and that’s a lesson ingrained in me forever. I love to eat, I love to train, and just be me. I am a fit girl foodie.

Hi Jenny nice to “meet” you too! Thanks so much for dropping by~~ Yeahhh I feel ya when you say that you were ‘thin and unattractive’ due to an unhealthy routine. I remember that back in the day, my family ALWAYS commented on how sickly i looked, etc. but then again…they always think that because i’m so healthy to them that it’s abnormal to them. You see, one of the main reasons that i strive to be phys. healthy is that I have a weak stomach and have discovered that eating like I do now and all other things in moderation truly helps my condition. I do still eat Korean food and other stuff when I can too. But slowly they’re more curious about what i eat and stuff, and seem to try my food as well. πŸ™‚ hang in there! and remember that in the end, our inside reflects our outside, and not the other way around. <33

Love this story. I was a gymnast for 10 years and struggled with loving McDonald’s and hating my “chub”. I cut down to about 1000 calories a day in high school and took working out to a whole new level (about 3-5hrs of cardio a day!). It took a long, long time to finally realize how to feed my body right and treat it right. Keep up the blogging, I look forward to reading more! And best of luck with PA school:) I’m graduating nursing school in a month!!!

Hi Jenny! I really enjoyed reading your story! I can totally relate to it! I was never fat but “skinny fat” THere was no trace of muscle anywhere on my body. I avoided fatty foods, counted calories, the whole nine yards. But now, I understand our body needs healthy fat! try keeping me away from the nut butters! =) and avocado yummers! I too have fallen in love with strength training! it’s so empowering isn’t it?
    let’s keep it up!
