One Year Down!!

First year of PA school is officially over!

“I’m glad I did it, partly because it was worth it, but mostly because I shall never have to do it again” And this is exactly how i feel.

It was a rough year but I made it sane alive. Now it’s 3 weeks of orientation and on to clinical year to start seeing some real patients. The thought makes me excited but extremely nauseous and overwhelmed.

So far I’m just enjoying what’s left of my vacation which is about 2 days since I start back up on Monday https://i2.wp.com/amy.txoriaskea.org/forum/Smileys/amsn/Sad_smiley.gif womp womp

At least my vacation was a nice one. I went to Key West with the boyfriend and met up with some friends  for drinks and noms.

Sad to come back to reality especially knowing how far away my next break is but it’ll all be over soon Smile

Mini Vacation

Finally taking a little breather after countless weeks of nonstop studying in my cave room and a few mini mental breakdowns along the way. Needless to say, I survived my second semester in one piece and there’s only one more semester keeping me from interacting with real patients in the REAL world. No amount of book reading can ever prepare you for what you’ll see in the hospitals and clinics, so to say I’m a teensy bit nervous is to be putting it  mildy. I’m already having slight panic attacks from time to time. Skype Sweaty Emoticon

Unfortunately there’s only one week of vacation before starting Summer semester which is shorter (yay) but that also means more work, exams, and less of a life. So far I’ve learned how to intubate a patient model, take out blood, suture, do a pap smear, and perform a prostate exam. The last two were on real professional patients, trust me it’s not as bad as it sounds lol

Ok so enough with school and on to the eats!

My delish waffle breakki with chopped nanners drizzled with syrup

These are some other eats from the past few months

Can never get enough sushi

Margarita heaven!!

Beautiful sunset watching with the boyfriend

And of course another drink or should I say bucket Winking smile

And my night topper…

Snickers ice cream with a vanilla cookie half eaten cookie Smile

So how was everyone’s Cinco de Mayo? I went to Cancun Grill and danced my butt off with my friends

How Far Would You Go?

To lose 5, 10, 50, even 100 pounds of excess fat? Consumers are now turning to the famous HCG diet for their weight loss solution. For those of you who aren’t aware of this very popular diet it consists of pairing an HCG injection with a very restrictive low calorie diet in order to shed weight and shed it fast.

What is HCG?

  • HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) is a hormone produced during pregnancy to ensure that the growing fetus receives enough nutrients to grow and develop normally.

How does this relate to fat loss?

  • When HCG is taken, the body is able to tap into it’s stored fat and utilize it.

As if this wasn’t enough, it is paired with a 500 calorie diet so that weight loss becomes 1-2 pounds PER DAY!

Have your attention yet?

Scam or not, thousands of people are believing in this miracle product to help them achieve the body they’ve always desired. While most people eat 500 calories in their  breakfast alone these diet followers consume it in one day’s worth.

I got so much awesome feedback from my Eating For Health post that I knew I couldn’t let this one slide by without addressing it.

As Kate said it best:To me, it’s all about a lifestyle change. Once the injections and restrictive calorie diets are done, what do these people do next?

This diet promises people that they will lose 30 lbs in one month. Health.msn.com called this diet a “weight-loss miracle or a dangerous fraud, depending on who’s talking.”

This is not long term weight loss.  Something to always remember is this; the faster you lose weight, the faster you gain it back and vice versa.

What message are you teaching your children by having to inject yourself with a hormone and eat 1/4 the normal amount of calories you’re suppose to in order to be thin. Have we gone to such lengths to be skinny? This isn’t helping people develop a healthy relationship with food, on the contrary it’s pushing people in the realm of an eating disorder.

“Though hCG dieters have some leeway in how they spend their 500 daily calories, they’re urged to choose organic meats, vegetables, and fish. Dairy, carbs, alcohol, and sugar are all off limits. A day’s meals might consist of coffee and an orange for breakfast; a little tilapia and raw asparagus for lunch; a piece of fruit in the afternoon; and crab, spinach, Melba toast, and tea for dinner. If dieters slip up, they’re encouraged to compensate by drinking only water and eating nothing but six apples for 24 hours. That’s thought to help squeeze out water weight, a psychological boost to help them get back on track.”

It isn’t the injection that’s causing the weight loss, it’s the outrageously low diet. The weight loss industries are taking advantage of the ignorance of the average consumer and milking it for it’s every dime. Who knows what insane diet will show up next.

Ok enough with the rant! Now some eats 🙂

Baked Oatmeal

With bananas, bunnies, peanuts, chocolate chips, and almond butter!

Not Another Manic Monday

Mondays feel just like Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays when you have no job and no school I woke up at my leisure which was about 8am 9am and decided to make some oats (yes, yet again) 😉 The day I stop making oats will be the end of me.

Today, I was feeling like a honey day and I seriously need to get to the grocery store and buy some Honey Nut Cheerios. I get these super random cravings that I cannot get rid off unless I grocery shop. When you’re an avid foodie, you don’t get cravings for accessory items just food 😛

So I give you my little humble breakfast: Honey Nut Oats

Yes it was even tastier than it looks. I’ve had mini Teddy Grahams for like 2 weeks and kept forgetting to use them! How wrong. Never again will my Teddies go uneaten. I wish they were Teddy’s from Whole Foods like Heather has 😦 I will be on the hunt for those.

Today was another beautiful day and I couldn’t wait for a good workout

Weight lifting days are seriously the best.

Bench press: 65 lbs (killed me) I seriously need to start getting over my embarrassment and ask for a spotter or I’m going to get killed. My arms were trembling on my last set. I had never gone up so much in weight by myself.

Leg Press: 210 lbs. Went down 10 lbs but I was able to go lower and get more of a leg burn

Lunges: 50 lbs (omgggggg wind knocker!!) These puppies will literally make you sweat.

Lat pulldowns: 87 lbs. Ok not going to lie, I did like 4 out of my 8 because my bench press tired my arms out way too much.

I always see such interesting things at the gym. Guys that rack up the pounds then only do their exercises half way. Such fail and muscle wasting potential.

A simple little lunch after a great workout. My healthified sausage cheese McMuffin 🙂

And for dessert?

Greek yogurt, cinnamon, strawberries, almond butter, and a waffle toasted to perfection. Yes it was light and delightful 🙂

So today was my first day cutting off sorbitol. So far my tummy is happy but I can’t be singing my praises so fast. I am still consuming splenda so for now it’s just sorbitol. I almost ate a sugar free cookie that had some in it! Eek must read ingredients in everythinggg.

I’m also listening to these audio books on IBS. It’s based on hypnotherapy which incorporates very soothing music and puts me in a tranquil state. It’s great for relaxation.

Hope everyone is having a great Monday, I’m in the midst of watching Gossip Girl. Love it! 😀

73 Degree Winter

Love love love it! Good Morning! 😀

So far it has been a sunny beautiful weekend. Saturday was a fairly relaxing day so I decided to walk at the park. As much as I would love to say that I jogged, it would only be a lie. Five continuous minutes of running hardly constitutes going out for a jog 😉 But either way, I got some cardio in and rather than spending it inside a gym I partook in the fab Miami weather.

I never use to make coffee in the morning and now I just can’t function without a brewed pot. I love the French Vanilla and Hazelnut flavors. Just add a couple of splendas and ready to go.

Breakfast was….Yes but of course oats!

Bowl of banana oats with raisins, walnuts, flax, a little jam, chocolate “chips”, and a drizzle of honey. Hit the spot!

I don’t know about you guys but for me breakfast just sets my mood for the day. I go to bed thinking about what treat I will enjoy the next morning. Eating healthy has taught me the true value of taste and to really savor food. I enjoy the little things and would much rather cook up some oatmeal at home than go out and buy breakfast at any fast food joint.

Saturday night I hung out with my friends and ended up at a late night Dennys. I just had some coffee since I had already eaten. And yes black with no cream!! Eek  I must be insane!!! 😉

Sunday was an equally beautiful day and my mid day snack was filled with pure awesomeness.

Ok why have I never chopped a waffle into my Fage before?! It was so delicious. Just some greek yogurt, blueberries, strawberries, cinnamon, splenda, and two sugar free vanilla wafer cookies.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Waffle kinda morning

Unfortunately my sleep was not exactly uninterrupted this morning. I planned on getting blood work done in the at the crack of dawn because the diagnostic center where I go gets overpopulated with people after like 8am. The plan was to wake up at 7am and I did, but only because some random person decided to call my cell phone with a wrong number. Pretty convenient for me although I would have preferred sleeping in a bit more. The blood work was quick and painless just the way I like it, and before I knew it I was home and back under the covers. I already had in mind what I wanted for breakfast from last night but then I changed it in the midst of my sleep to do baked oatmeal. Unfortunately, by the time I woke up at 10 I was in no mood to wait for food so I stuck with my original plan 😉

I’m definitely happy with my decision. Breakfast did not let me down! I toasted up a low fat eggo with some cinnamon bananas and almond butter. I also had a bowl of Kashi with yogurt and fruits (there’s yogurt under there I promise). Everything was great except for the coffee 😦 Unfortunately I ran out of my french vanilla flavored brand and had to use a Hazelnut Cinnamon one. It wasn’t terrible but something about the taste was a bit off. I might have made it too strong. Definitely must go back to Publix and buy more of that other coffee, it’s so delicious especially with the fat free creamer.

It’s starting to feel like I’m living in Miami again. The temperature is starting to heat up. These last few days had been pretty chilly but today was like 80° and it was hot! I fixed up some school registration forms and headed to the gym for a cardio workout. It was only 20 minutes long but I worked up a sweat! By the time I got home I was starving for lunch.

Pasta will always be one of my favorite dishes. There’s just something about it that makes my taste buds tingle. While the Ronzoni noodles were cooking I started making a boca burger for protein. I chopped it up and added the already cooked pasta to the pot with the burger. Last I added Kraft Light Alfredo Sauce. Omg it was amazing but the Parmesan cheese topping really finished the job 😉 Happy tummy

Now for an episode of Top Chef 😉
